The Good Old Days
There was a time in my life when I had these long, voluminous lashes. I remember vividly, how my hubby used to say “Your eyes are the mirror to your soul, Linda, and your lashes make them pop wonderfully!”
He was right back then, but now things have changed.
I have never really given up on wearing mascara. I'm 62 years old and I still have 6 or 7 bottles opened in my drawer.
It used to be my thing before work every morning. Cappuccino on the bathroom sink countertop and my simple yet effective make-up routine finished with a few gentle coats of mascara. It always felt so nice and got me ready to go.
My favs used to be Marc Jacobs and Estee Lauder. A bit pricier than the regular drugstore mascaras, but they got the job done perfectly.
Now it's a completely different story and there are two aspects that change the game for me. My lashes have gotten sparse and very thin. Nothing compared to what they were 20 years ago. Or even 5 years ago. After menopause, my estrogen levels dropped and my hair started growing much slower than before.
The other thing is eye sensitivity. Very rarely did I use mascara because it causes irritation to my eyes. Even the very expensive ones...
Over the last few years, I have spent significant sums of money in my quest to find the right mascara and have always been somewhat disappointed.
Most of the formulations just slip off my lashes producing the awful panda look. In other cases, my eyelashes look all squished together and unnatural. At my age, I'm not looking for volume or thickness. I just want to have natural-looking lashes again.
I'm not sure why I kept on searching for the right one. Maybe it was because I loved my make-up ritual so much and did not want to let it go. Maybe I was too ashamed of my pitiful, almost non-existent lashes that I had to find a fix.
I even tried eyelash extensions, but honestly, they did more damage than good. Due to thinning eyelashes, I had basically stopped using mascara as it was getting too difficult to apply and I had not found a mascara for years that would do anything for my bottom lashes.
Ask and It Is Given
A couple of months ago I ran into my old friend Patricia with whom I used to study together. I hadn't seen her in ages.
It was a warm, but rainy afternoon and, as always, I had forgotten my umbrella (classic Linda). I wasn't in a rush that day and Patricia offered to grab a coffee in the nearest coffee shop, so we don't get completely drenched by the rain.
We sat down, ordered our go-to flat whites, and chatted as if we were still in college. It's such a nice feeling to meet someone from the past and pick it up right where you left it. Laughter and joy filled our conversation.
We talked about our families, how everyone was doing. She told me that her daughter recently had twins and she now spends quite a bit of time babysitting them, which seemed to make her super happy.
When Patricia spoke I just couldn't stop staring at her eyes. Even though we were the same age, her eyelashes seemed so voluminous and thick.
While we spoke, in my mind I was going back and forth: “Are those her real eyelashes or does she have extensions on?” They seemed so natural, yet I still couldn't believe it.
Suddenly, I simply couldn't hold it in anymore, so I asked: “Sorry for my curiosity, but your eyelashes are so long and gorgeous. I have been struggling with mine. Are those really your real, natural eyelashes?”
She smiled back at me and said: “Yes, those are mine. Funny that you asked, people these days are always asking me the same question. I guess the magic really worked!”
“What worked? What did you do?”, I curiously asked her.
She leaned in closer to me. It felt that she's about to let me in on her secret.
“You see, 3 months ago I was mindlessly scrolling through my Facebook feed and seeing what people I know were up to. Suddenly an advertisement by Rumi Cosmetiques popped up in my timeline. I didn't know anything about what they were doing but, at first glance, it seemed they were making beauty products for women our age.”, she said.
“At that moment I was struggling with my thinning eyelashes too, so I got curious. They explained their simple, 2-step routine made for mature, thinning eyelashes.”, she continued.
“Still, I was skeptical in the beginning, of course. So many of these Facebook ads promise you the world and deliver absolute dog sh*t (pardon my language). I have had several orders that go from Royal Mail straight to my bin.”, Patricia said.
“Nevertheless, I decided to try it. I must admit that it felt quite pricey for me, but then again: how much would I pay to have back those gorgeous eyelashes I used to have? Much, much more I suppose. They had a satisfaction guarantee in place which meant that I had nothing to lose, just maybe beautiful lashes to gain.”, she further explained.
She continued, "The idea behind Lash Duo Set is simple: for women after 50 with thinning eyelashes, "just a mascara" isn't enough anymore." (maybe that's why I couldn't find the one after so many tries).
"You need to supply your body with extra active ingredients that help your lashes to grow" (again, totally makes sense).
"Lash Duo Set consists of VolumeCare+ Mascara & LashCare+ Serum."
"Both of them are loaded with active ingredients that make sure your eyelashes get conditioned and nourished every time you apply anything to them."
"And that is not it!", Patricia continued, "Not only VolumeCare+ Mascara has the active ingredients that improve the look of your eyelashes but it also will be the best mascara you've tried. I promise!"
"It doesn't clump, flake nor smear. It's super easy to use and takes seconds to apply on even my sensitive eyes."
"The formula is smooth as silk and will withstand rain and my menopausal sweats. Look how well it stayed on in this crazy rain!", she leaned in so I could take a look.
"But when it comes to improving the appearance of your natural eyelashes over time, LashCare+ Serum with its powerful active ingredients will do the heavy lifting every night."
"Linda, you should try it! It will boost your confidence!", Patricia whispered and smiled.
ALL OF THIS GOT ME VERY EXCITED!
It seemed super easy & it promised the results I was after. Heck, if it worked for Patricia, maybe it could work on me as well.
