COLDER MONTHS? A NEW WAVE? BOOST YOURSELF!
As the colder months are approaching, we have to give ourselves and our immune systems a little pick-me-up moment.
I think by now you already know what I’m about to say… Come on, lady – you deserve it!
You deserve to be healthy. You deserve to be beautiful. You deserve to be taken care of and loved. Allow yourself to feel that way. Set your mind to it and act on it in the smallest of ways.
In a culture where there is a pill for every ill, this time is at last a wake-up call for all of us to take back some of our power and do what we can to boost our immune and every other system in our body.
Here are some small acts we can do to boost our immune system by strengthening the body and calming the mind.
1. Oh my gut!
The way any illness is going to affect you lays in the foundation you provide for it to grow.
More than 80% of our immunity is in our gut which is home to more than 100 trillion bacteria.
Strengthening our gut microbiome and refraining from substances that harm it can in fact help defend against disease.
Eat clean food and avoid processed or junk food as much as possible - opt for something more natural, fresh and healthy.
Studies have found that if you stick to a diet of healthy foods, you’re setting yourself up for fewer mood fluctuations, an overall happier outlook and an improved ability to focus. You owe this to yourself, don’t you?
2. Breathe clean air, drink clean water.
You know me, I always love coming back to the basics of basics but only because you’ll be amazed at how much better you feel overall when you’re fueling your body correctly. It’s not theory.
Fresh air has been shown to help digest food more effectively, improve blood pressure and heart rate, strengthen the immune system, reduce obesity rates, and strengthen family ties, all leading to a healthier you.
Get out in nature, open your window in the morning, go for a walk!
Hydrate your body. When the weather gets a bit more chilly and every possible virus mutation circulates around, give your body what it consists of.
3. Calm the mind.
We tend to separate our brain from the rest of our body, but good health means good health from a holistic perspective - from head to toe.
It’s still a very stressful time for a lot of us. The pandemic isn’t over after almost two years and emotional clutter gets bigger with every news lane.
It’s vital we take time to rest and unplug our brain from all the twitter gurus.
Calming your mind is not easy, but incorporating some quiet me-time and the next two tips I have managed to improve my mental well-being.
4. Limit your news intake.
You can probably sit by the radio or TV all day long and there still will be information you missed while sleeping. It’s a never-ending rat race.
News that you might consider bad or shocking stresses the central nervous system lowering your immune response over time.
Just take a day or two off. You will feel so much better. Consider a week or two.
5. Happy ears, happy tears!
Listen to something you love! Music has been proven to provide a wealth of health benefits, both emotionally and physically.
When you listen to uplifting music or just a song that makes you happy, it can decrease your cortisol (stress) levels.
This will have a positive impact on your overall well-being and can even alleviate feelings of overwhelm or depression.
Call someone you enjoy talking to! Get on a group call or whatever! Someone could prefer a podcast or a video of their grandchild.
Or maybe you make music yourself, but haven’t touched the violin for years. Wipe the dust off and let the fun begin!
Remember that life is never happening to you. It’s always happening for you. Notice how it loves you!
I wish you all the love and strength in this world,
