We are all in this together.

We received a message from our first-time customer a few days ago and it inspired us so much, we decided to write a blog post about it.
It did because she was so genuine and upfront in her words, it resonated with our whole team deeply. Not because she liked our products (she hadn’t even tried them at the time) or because she sadly had a tough upbringing or current life situation as it happens at times, not because she devoted her life to something beautiful…
Perhaps some of these mentioned scenarios are applicable to the lady who sent us this message, Lorraine, but it wasn’t because of that that we felt moved and inspired, one by one.
The main and only reason is that she perfectly described almost every angle from which we have thought when creating our products and even our company. It’s because she mentioned nearly every concern our customers have. So we wanted to share it.
Because at times we can all feel like we’re the only ones having these issues, concerns or mistakes, but it’s actually a very collective thing. And by hearing someone else talk about it, we can experience a feeling of belonging, calmness and relief. So we hope it makes you feel that…
“I still like to bother with my appearance but I need to tone my face down now since it has wrinkles, sunspots, imperfections etc..”
This is the perfect description of many ladies that enjoy our products. We create cosmetics for mature women not so they can look “younger” or “more like they were before”, but for them to look as good as they can right now, not sacrificing or trying to hide the signs of aging.
In contrast, with a goal to emphasize their natural beauty, taking all the lines, spots and imperfections into consideration, we strive to add more value to the lives of our dear customer ladies as well as the lives of ladies that receive our indirect help through the charities we support.
“For years, I have struggled to find makeup that suits me in my mature years.”
I read Lorraine’s email, but I hear all the numerous ladies that are thinking the same. We go through changes all our life and so there are multiple “me”’s we have to adapt to and learn to love, respect and appreciate.
I love a quote from a book “The Meaning of Marriage” by Timothy Keller and it goes something like this: “I have been married to about 16 men in my life and all of them have been my husband”.
And so it’s the same with taking care of ourselves or something as simple as doing our makeup – you have to change and adapt accordingly.
Something that worked 10 years ago might not work now and it shouldn't be looked upon as a burden, but rather an interesting life winding or a creative challenge and an opportunity to understand yourself on a deeper level.
“The choice of mascara is very limited too. Because my specs are like magnifying glass, if I use black or black/brown mascara, I look like a panda and against my very fair hair and skin, it just appears ridiculous!”
She continues by saying: “I have decent lashes so that's a plus, but I only need a little colour on them to give enough effect. I have never found any mascara that is not overpowering, so I usually have to put it on then try wiping some off to get a more subtle and gentle effect! I certainly don't want to look like "mutton dressed as lamb!"
Wow, now, isn’t that incredibly relatable?! Although many ladies of a certain age do have problems with the state of their lashes, being thinning, breaking or falling out, we still all (nearly) face the same (nearly) challenges.
Ladies who have had or currently are going through chemotherapy have weak and thin lashes as well as eyebrows and some actually have reported that Rumi products have helped a little or tremendously, differing from a lady to lady.
But, how wonderful it actually is to see women all around the globe with different upbringing, representing different cultures and religions, having different or even completely contrasting life situations and visual features, for all these women to have such similar changes they go through and such similar challenges they face.
Isn’t it wonderful that we’re all in this together, no matter how hard it may seem at times?
I feel so thankful for all your messages as it’s exactly what it does – gives a more profound feeling of belonging and purpose – to help, little by little, as many women as we possibly can.
Lorraine mentioned she’s 71 and shared some wonderful details about her everyday life and the needs she has in regards to makeup and skincare, but her last sentence resonated with us on a whole different level, just because it’s so simple, casual and upfront.
She ordered our InstantBrow+ Eyebrow Pencil in the colour “blonde”, our best-seller product VolumeCare+ Mascara and at the end of her email she wrote:
"I just want to be appealing, sophisticated and elegant in my golden years."
It’s so true, isn’t it?
That’s all, folks. Just a simple reminder of how incredibly connected we all are and the fact that we should support and lift each other up throughout our journeys.
Kindest regards,

Hi I too had issues with receiving my order (mascara) but unfortunately it was at my end in the UK!..which as gone missing. However after several emails between myself and lovely ladies at Rumi they kindly sent me another one which I’m happy to say arrived!!..but I too agree with other user about the removal and the packaging of the product. But having said that I do like it.

I have to agree with Lorraine’s comments. I do like the mascara, but find it incredibly difficult to remove, and sometimes there are little bits and flakes when you are trying to remove it. Also the eyebrow pencil in Blonde is rather on the ginger shade side, so would prefer a more taupe shade.

That was lovely and certainly reminds us that we truly ARE all in this together and not alone in our feelings. I particularly liked the quote from Timothy Keller about being married to 16 different men but all the same husband this is very true in my case! I love the mascara but the brow and lash serums have done nothing for me at all so can’t buy anymore, but will certainly be buying the brown mascara next time round. Thank you Rumi.

Hi, yes I love this post too. I use your products, and love them, but I would welcome a lighter brown mascara, as often as now when I’m very pale, the black looks a little ‘startling’ (well, it startles me when I catch myself in a mirror!), and I want to look my best without always looking super made-up. Thanks!

What a lovely message from Lorraine. It is so very true about looking good for our age but not trying to look younger. We would all like to look younger but is is impossible because age makes your skin look older. However, I am and have been very happy with the products I have purchased from Rumi. I like the way they care about their clients and ask if we have received our products in good time. It makes me feel good that I even care about my skin as often people say, ‘Oh we don’t bother we are old’. Thank you once again for such an interesting and honest review Lorraine.

Thank you so much for publicly highlighting my comments, I feel very flattered that my voice has been heard and acknowledged.
However, whilst I absolutely love the mascara and the light subtle effect it gives me, I do have an issue with the removal of this product!
I must have missed (in the product description) the fact that it is ‘waterproof’!
Had I realised this, I would not have ordered because I cannot use makeup remover or wipes (the substance seeps into my eyes and causes an oily film which interferes with my sight and can last a considerable amount of time, sometimes 2-3days)
So unfortunately I will only be wearing the mascara on special occasions and when I can just leave it on to wear off naturally (not an ideal solution).
This is purely my observations to bring this to Rumi cosmetic’s attention, in the hopes that perhaps down the line, there might be a similar product but water soluble for women like me who prefer to take off their lash colour with plain water.
The brow colour (blonde)
is much more subtle, but looks a little ‘ginger’ against my palette, again, maybe sometime in the future, there might be a ‘paler brown’ or ‘light brown/grey’ … more of a ‘light taupe’ perhaps?
I hope my comments and ideas will be of some help
in moving forward and expanding your range of cosmetics for your target audience age range.
Thank you.
Regards, Lorraine.

Relevant message. Thanks Lorraine.
When are U planning on doing a charcoal/silver range for all us Ladies that belong to the Silver Age?
Like many others I’m sure – with the magnification of specs! – we can’t use brown or black or even blonde on our eyebrows
Thanks for the blog & Happy New 2022!

Thanks for a great story. I think many older women will relate to it. Especially that it’s not about ‘looking younger’ it’s about being the best possible you, feeling happy and content within your own skin.

Hello
Lovely words and sentiments which I think many of us can relate to!
I’ve just received my order of eyelash serum and mascara which I love. The packaging is very attractive but and yes it is a BUT (sorry) are you able to reduce the amount of plastic used…
Best wishes

I absolutely love this mascara and to date have ordered 3. I have to agree with a number of comments regarding it’s removal. Maybe some research and development of a ‘kind to mature eyes’ cleanser.
